  • CHEMTECH expands the scope of EPC conference
  • Mr B Narayan addresses over 50 leaders from the manufacturing and the service providers
The EPC conference has evolved significantly over the last decade from a platform for interactions between the vendors and the contractors to a much diversified forum to create dynamic interactions among the project owners, investors and the entire vertical of EPC service providers. “We aim to create a more comprehensive and inclusive horizontal industry platform of EPC, where major contracting companies are serving all these segments of EPC,” said Mr Maulik Jasubhai, Vice Chairman & Chief Executive, Jasubhai Group & CHEMTECH Foundation in his welcome address during the first Central Advisory Board meeting at The Club in Mumbai.

Mr B Narayan, Group President (Procurement & Projects), Reliance Industries Ltd, presided over the CAB meeting which was attended by the key decision makers from the diversified sectors of chemicals & petrochemicals, fertilisers, specialty chemicals along with the leading EPC contractors and suppliers for equipment, technologies and various services. The think tank met for Sunday brunch to draw the roadmap for the EPC conference.

Internationally, the markets are witnessing a surge in the new projects, especially the regions of Middle East, USA and Africa, where several chemical majors are setting up large scale capacities to cater to the growing local demand and derive cost advantage due to low manufacturing costs. The panel expressed that India is perceived as the low cost production house rather than for EPC business sense despite the availability of strong talent pool in the country. The board members unanimously proposed ‘Building Strong Indian EPC to Make Brand India Global’ as the theme of the conference which is also the immediate need of Indian EPCs to ply in the international arena.

Technical Chairman of the EPC conference, Mr P D Samudra, Executive Director - Sales & Member of the Board, Uhde India & Senior Vice President - Business Development, ThyssenKrupp Uhde for India & MENA, has called for a technical committee meeting of the members of CAB to structure the conference programme on June 13. Mr H V Singh, Head - Group Projects, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt Ltd has been nominated as the Chairman Sponsorship Committee along with the eminent leaders including - Mr Vipul Shah, President CEO & Chairman, Dow Chemical International Pvt.Ltd, Mr Carl - Anders Lindgren, President and Technical Advisor - TAN Business, Deepak Fertilisers And Petrochemicals Corporation Limited. Mr Samudra has been nominated as the Advisor to this committee on insistence by Mr Singh.

The noted technocrat, Dr Rama Iyer, Former Executive Chairman, Aker Kvaerner Powergas will chair the Awards committee; the members include Mr Vinayak Pai, Managing Director, Jacobs Engineering (I) Pvt Ltd, Mr D P Misra, Director, Development Consultants Pvt Ltd, Mr Ajay Hans, Managing Director, Petron Engineering Construction Limited.

CHEMTECH has formed a separate Students Committee to organise parallel activities during the four days of CHEMETCH World Expo 2015 to enable greater interactions between the industry and the students. Mr Vipul Shah, President Chairman & CEO, Dow Chemical International Pvt Ltd, Mr Sanjay Joshi, Managing Director, Aker Solutions - Aker Powergas Pvt Ltd, Mr YPS Suri, Country Head, Outokumpu India Pvt Ltd & Mr D P Misra have been nominated to drive the whole initiative.

Board members will meet to review the progress of discussions during the month of June under the chairmanship of Mr B Narayan.
