Oil refining industry makes a big impact on the country’s economy and has been a core focus industry for the ChemTECH World Expo series of exhibitions and conferences since inception. Chemtech will organize 12th edition of Refining & Petrochemicals World Expo & parallel technical conference concurrently during ChemTECH World Expo 2022 from February 22-25, 2022 in Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai.
At the turn of the millennium, India had the capacity of 113 MMTPA which has more than been doubled over the last 18 years with capacity additions by Public Sector Oil Companies, as well as by the Private Sector and the Joint Ventures. With 23 refineries, total capacity of 250 MMTPA 6 aromatic complexes with a combined Xylene capacity of 4.45million MT and out of the total production of major petrochemicals the production of polymers account for about 59.32%.
Though India has evolved as one of the key global players, this industry is facing unprecedented challenge due to sudden demand disruption of refining products and petrochemicals.
While the industry will take time to turnaround, Chemtech aims to bring together the stakeholders of this industry to see the display of state of the art technologies and equipment for the refiners and downstream petrochemical manufacturers during the four days of tradeshow. Parallel thematic conference on topics of utmost relevance will enable the professionals to understand the future industry outlook, product demand, and evolving business and technology ecosystems as the world starts to settle with the New Normal.

Mr B AshokChief Executive OfficerRatnagiri Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (RRPCL)The refining capacity of India has grown quite significantly from 0.5 MMTPA at times of independence to the current capacity of 247 MMPTA or nearly 5 million barrels per day with the number of refineries growing from 1 to 23. At the turn of the millennium, India had the capacity of 113 MMPTA which has more than been doubled over the last 18 years with capacity additions by Public Sector Oil Companies, as well as by the Private Sector and the Joint Ventures
Mr. B. K. NamdeoFormer Director- RefineriesHPCLBy 2040, India’s energy consumption for oil and gas will not be less than 450 MMT per annum. At present, our total refining capacity is approximately 240 MMT. In the next 5-6 years, there isn’t much addition in the refineries in India except the west coast refineries that is about 60 MMT, which is still on the drawing board. Even if we take today’s intake capacity of the refining and the proposed capacity of the west coast, then maybe by 2025 we will become a net importer. Today we are called as net exporter but within a very short period we are going to become a net importer and this is the cause of concern.
Mr. P. PadmanabhanManaging DirectorNumaligarh Refineries Ltd.Right now I think it is the tipping point. The situations are good, the environment is good, economics are good, challenges are there. I am sure we become I mean in India we become the real pioneer of the innovation in the refining industry. We are the third largest growing economy in the world.
