Santosh Tandel an alumnus of the prestigious IIT Bombay with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He
has over 34 years’ experience in process engineering as well as operating experience in the Refinery
Sector. He is currently Group Head – Oil & Gas / Refinery. He is currently engaged in various activities
for implementation of the INDMAX project at IOCL Bongaigaon Refinery, the BS VI project at IOCL
Paradip Refinery, and the Naphtha Cracker Expansion Project at IOCL Panipat Refinery etc.
In the past, he worked in various Refineries such as BPCL Mumbai, ESSAR Oil. He also has
international experience through his stints at the KNPC & BAPCO Refineries. He was involved in
carrying out Basic Engineering for different units such as CTN Fractionator, Gas Turbine, Tankages for
Sasol Refinery at South Africa to meet Euro V Fuel specifications. He has conducted HAZOP studies for
various process units such as Phenol, GOHDS, DAP/NPK, FeCl3 and various package units such as
Compressor, fired heater, dosing in the capacity of HAZOP chairman.
He has also experience in the Fertiliser sector and has been associated with the RCF Ammonia plant
project at Thal.
His paper deals with an overview of tkIS Technologies for value added Refinery and Petrochemical
products such as Hydrogen, Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE), Di-Methyl Ether (DME), Iso-Propyl
Alcohol (IPA) and Methyl Iso-Butyl Ketone (MIBK).
