We present to you Icon Lectures 2019, an event that is aimed at providing a direct interface between you and the most inspirational people of the chemical industry. Hear it from the best, what it takes to reach the top and what is the future of Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals. Remember, this is not just an event; it is an investment in you, by the industry.

Rules and Regulations

  • All participants are expected to be seated at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time of the event.
  • The participants are expected to maintain decorum throughout the event. They are especially requested to maintain absolute silence when the ICON speaks.
  • The Organizers reserve the right to search / frisk the student (including his/her bags, clothes or other possessions) through Security Personnel or any other representatives
  • Mobile phones must be strictly switched off at all times during the lectures.
  • Bags shall be sealed before the participant enters the venue of the Lecture.
  • Bags, laptops, helmets, bottles, lighters, tins or cans, musical instruments, water balloons, eggs, flammable, toxic, illegal or hazardous substances, tobacco or tobacco products, metal containers, firecrackers, fireworks, weapons (including Swiss army knives and similar instruments), or any other article which might endanger or unduly annoy any other person are not allowed inside the venue. No provision is made for the storage of these items and each of these items will be confiscated at security check points and will not be returned.
  • No outside food and/or alcohol may be brought inside the venue.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited within the venue or its premises.
  • The use of any equipment of any kind including without limitation to mobile phones, transistors, computers, cameras or any other audio visual recording equipment, for recording and/or communication is strictly prohibited.
  • The student will not sell or offer for sale any product or service from any part of the venue and may not distribute or give away any free item(s) or any political, religious, charitable, commercial, advertising or promotional material(s) from or at any part of the venue.
  • Foul, abusive or any discriminatory language (whether on the grounds of race, religion or otherwise), unruly language, unruly or threatening behaviour, entry onto the dais or the throwing or projecting of any article within the venue shall not be tolerated at any point of time.
  • Any property left anywhere at the venue remains at the entire risk of the owner of the property or person leaving the same, the Organizers do not accept any liability for the theft or other loss or damage of such property.
  • Violation of any of the above mentioned Rules and Regulations shall result in the expulsion of the defaulter from the venue and strict action will be taken against the same.

The Poster Presentation is a challenge for budding technologists, to pour their ideas into a form that is both convincing and appealing. It gives you a stage for your innovations, which promises you exposure to eminent people from the academia and industry. Through this competition, we hope to give you an opportunity to exercise both, your technical and creative skills, and be rewarded for them. By participating in Poster Competition, you are also eligible to be a part of Internship Program that could get you placed as an intern in some of the best companies.

Basic format:

The Poster Presentation competition will take place in two stages. In the first stage, each team has to send in their abstracts online. The abstracts will be judged by a panel of specialists, with a fixed number of entries being shortlisted for the final stage. In the final stage, the selected teams will get an opportunity to display their posters at CHEMTECH World Expo (February 20-23, 2019). These posters shall be judged by a panel and prizes will be awarded to three winners and consolation prizes to two runners up.

Rules and regulations:

  1. If selected for the final presentation, the preprintedflex poster of dimensions 1m × 1m (inclusive of borders) must be brought to the venue by the teams. The poster must also have rivet holes on all corners.
  2. Ideas should be original or due credit must be given in the form of references in case of review posters. The organizers will not take any responsibility for any legal action faced by contestants for infringement of intellectual property rights.
  3. Authors are not to include the names of their mentors or guides, if any, in their abstracts or their posters. This would lead to disqualification of the team.
  4. The organizers will not be responsible for any damage to the posters.
  5. All posters must be within the scope of the broad categorization mentioned below.
  6. Transfer to an appropriate category of an entry upon discretion of the panel is widely possible even when the participant has intended participation in a different category altogether. By sending their abstracts for consideration, the participants agree to abide by this.

  • Automation and Trends in Chemical Technology:Detection, Instrumentation, Membranes & Filtration, Conveyance, etc.
  • Non-Conventional and Clean Sources of Energy:Energy Harvesting, Solar Cell, Wind Energy, Biodiesel, etc.
  • Environmental and Green Chemistry:Energy engineering, environmental sciences, green chemistry, etc.
  • Novel Engineering Materials & Corrosion Mitigation:Nano technology, novel catalysts, drug delivery systems, smart materials and other novel advances in chemical engineering and allied fields.

Registrations:

Given below are the registration guidelines:

  1. All undergraduateswith a valid student identity cards from any year of study, institute or course are allowed to participate.
  2. Poster presentation is a team event. Each team may comprise of a maximum of threeand a minimum of one
  3. While registering for the competition, each team is required to submit an abstract for their poster.
  4. The abstractshould not exceed 300 words and must include suitable references, besides names of the authors. Authors are not to include the names of their mentors or guides, if any, in their abstracts or their posters. This would lead to disqualification of the team.
  5. Abstracts must be named as follows- <Name of first author>_<poster title>.pdf
  6. Abstracts in any format other than the one specified will not be considered.
  7. No individual can be the first author in more than one poster.
  8. Teams participating in the final round must leave their posters on displayfor all the days of the event. They may take them back after the end of the event.
  9. Decisions of the judges and event organizers will be final and binding.
  10. A registration fee of  250/-will be levied per team member.

One of the most exciting and popular events of the Student Outreach Program, the Industry Defined Problem is one opportunity you don’t want to miss. The IDP is based around suggesting an innovative method to real-time problems and displaying them in the form of digital poster or working models. Through this event, we hope to bring together young innovators and give them a platform to crystallise their ideas into concrete forms.

The IDP gives you an opportunity to rub shoulders with giants of the chemical industry, who could become the key to taking your model from a mere a poster or prototype to an industrially applicable technology. Via participation, you also get to be a part of an internship initiative that could get you placed as an intern in some of the best companies to kick-start your career.

Basic Format:

The Industry Defined Problem competition is split into two separate stages. Once the Problem Statement is released through our official handles, the First Stage begins with each team sending in their abstracts for the preliminary elimination round. The abstracts will be scrutinized by a panel of industry professionals. In the second stage, the selected teams get to exhibit their posters/models at the CHEMTECH World Expo 2019 (February 20-23, 2019). These posters and prototypes will be judged by a panel of experts (industry and academia) with cash prize of Rs.25,000/- each awarded to two winners.

  5. Laptops, if needed, are to be brought by the team.

 
Prototype

  1. The prototype must be a working model.
  2. The technology applied must be original and due credit must be given. The organizers will not take responsibility for any legal action faced by contestants for infringement of intellectual property rights.
  3. Authors are not to include the names of their mentors or guides in the abstracts, if any, or it might follow the disqualification of the abstract.
  4. The model must not requirethe use of fire, pressurization or vacuum. This is to ensure safety of the contestants and visitors.
  5. Only provisionsmade available by the organizers will be water (hot water may be requested for), electricity, tables and chairs.
  6. Dimensions should not be more than 5ft X 5ft.
  7. Laptops, if needed to be brought by the teams.
  8. The organizers won’t be responsible for any type of damage to the prototype.
  9. Chemicals required are to be brought by the team.

Registrations:

Registrations for Industry Defined Problem 2019 will begin shortly. Given below are a few registration details and guidelines you must keep in mind:

  1. All ‘undergraduate’ students with valid ID cards of their respective educational institutes are allowed to participate.
  2. Industry Defined Problem is a team event. A maximum of threemembers can form a team.
  3. A team can select only one problem from the options given below and present the solution in form of a prototype or a poster on the day of the event.
  4. While registering for the competition, each team must also submit an abstractfor their poster/prototype.
  5. This abstract is compulsoryand should be no more than 300 words in length and must strictly follow the format prescribed in the template. The abstract must include proper title, subtitle, and references, besides the name of the authors. Authors are not to include the name of the college, and their mentors, or guides, if any, in their abstracts or posters. This would lead to disqualification of the team.
  6. Abstracts must be named as follows: <Name of first author>_<Problem Title>
  7. Abstracts in any other format other than this will not be considered.
  8. Each team may also submita schematic of their prototype, separate from the abstract. This is optional and not a compulsory requirement.
  9. Teams participating in the final round must leave their posters/prototypes must leave their prototype on display for all the days of the event. They may take them back after the end of the event.
  10. Decision of the judges and event organizers will be final and binding
  11. A registration fee of 300/-will be levied per team member.
